- J&S Automotive Distributors Company History
J&S Automotive was set up in 1978 and traded under the name J&S Autoparts until 2008. The company was originally a motor factors’ servicing the needs of the local community with its first premises located in the North Strand area of Dublin city.
Initially employing 3 people the business grew rapidly and by 1981 the company opened a second premises in Dun Laoghaire in the southern part of Dublin’s growing suburbs. Turnover had increased by 200% and at this stage the company now employed 7 staff. Joe Gaynor the managing director was a man of vision and began to explore the wholesale aspect of the market, which was dominated by the main dealer franchises.
1984 had seen a change in this dominance with the introduction of Japanese cars being sold on the Irish market. It was virtually impossible to obtain motor parts for these cars. By 1988 J&S Autoparts were well on their way to forging direct and independent links with Japanese manufacturers and hence the birth of J&S Autoparts Distribution. Providing more cost effective products and a reliable service J&S Autoparts grew into a company that was in a very strong position to service this fragmented yet growing sector of the Irish Motor Industry. This relationship was further exploited when Ireland commenced importing second hand Japanese motor vehicles direct into this country in 1991.
The company’s reputation within the industry ensured that it was in a position to forge immediate links with the Society of Irish Vehicle Importers and assist them win the confidence of the Irish public in purchasing Japanese imported vehicles.
By 1998 J&S Autoparts Distribution moved its entire distribution network to a new corporate headquarters in Clondalkin Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Dublin. Close to Dublin’s newly developed ringroad with ease of access to Ireland’s network of motorways, the location proved once again to be a pivotal factor in improving J&S Autoparts service to its clients.
In October 2008, the company moved to its new headquarters and distribution centre in Park West, Dublin 12 and it also changed its trading name to J&S Automotive Distributors. The company synchronised a corporate re-structuring programm with the move to their new distribution hub, launching their commercial business as a separate division. J&S Commercial operates from Besser Drive, Clondalkin Ind. Est., Dublin, handling undercarriage for Hino, Hitachi and Isuzu models.
